In bed with Carolyn Hanna

Meet the Wonder Woman of the interior student styling world, Carolyn Hanna. With a particular penchant for cushions and a weakness for an ethereal colour palette, Carolyn is one of our favourite Instagrammers ever. Read as we chat all things styling, blooms and sleep with this talented student.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a dietitian by day, student by night! I’m currently studying a Diploma in Interior Design and absolutely loving it! After moving into our Sydney apartment last year, I became obsessed with styling our little home and turning it into our little slice of paradise

What does your perfect morning look like?

My perfect morning would definitely be the occasional week-day sleep-in I get! Especially when my husband has the day off too (and he isn’t just getting into bed after night shift). I’m an early riser either way, but I just love laying in bed for as long as possible, enjoying the comfiness of my amazing mattress and bedding.

What’s your number one sleep tip?

You HAVE to make sure you’re in a comfortable environment! If your quilt, pillows or mattress are no good, you won’t be getting a good sleep – make sure you choose the best products that you can.

How do you wind down in the evening?

I love to get comfy and have a good Insta-scroll. Seeking inspiration and admiring gorgeous interiors is my perfect chill-out activity before bed.

How has Koala changed your sleeping habits?

Well I never knew I could wake up feeling like I’ve just done a yoga class! My previous mattress was twice the price of my Koala mattress, and I used to wake up feeling like I needed to crack all of the bones in my body – I actually thought that was normal! But now that I’ve got my Koala mattress, I wake up feeling great – no cracking necessary.

How did you first get into styling?

Through Instagram! I started by posting lots of styled pictures to my personal page, and when I decided to stop forcing my passion on to all of my family and friends, I started Our Little Home. For the last six months or so, I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many lovely businesses showcasing their amazing products. Now that I’m on my way to becoming a qualified Interior Designer and Decorator, I’m so looking forward to helping more and more people style their homes.

Where do you find inspiration for your styling?

I love finding interior design and styling inspo on Instagram and Pinterest. There are so many amazing pages to follow, people to watch, and photos to stare at all day long!

What are the three things that every bedroom should be styled with?

Just three? Okay…
1. Beautiful linen; nothing beats it!
2. Framed prints; an affordable styling tool that can be easily changed up as often as you like.
3. Cushions, cushions, cushions… and no, there’s no such thing as too many (that’s what I tell hubby).

We love how your Instagram photos are styled with gorgeous blooms. Why do you think flowers are such an important styling tool?

You can never go wrong with beautiful fresh blooms! They add a gorgeous natural touch to the home, and are a simple and inexpensive way to change things up. I think everyone should buy themselves some stunning fresh flowers on the regular, just because!
